Wet Weather Policy
Purpose
The purpose of the Central Coast Cycling Club wet weather policy (the policy) is to ensure a safe riding experience for all riders and other participants. The policy applies to all CCCC events including social and training rides and races. The safety of riders, volunteers and other participants is of primary importance to DCC.
Location
UON Campus Ourimbah, Ourimbah NSW (UON)
Issues
The UON campus at Ourimbah is a unique opportunity to race on a fast and traffic free circuit.
The main weather issues affecting cyclists relate to the 90-degree corner located at the north-western corner of the circuit located near the start bay.
Due to the corner having a large tree hanging over the circuit and being at the bottom of the hill this point of the corner often stays wet through the corner and continuing across the pedestrian crossing. The speed that can be reached through this corner in its current form can create a risk to the riders which may occur due to lack of traction.
Solution
Alternate corner configuration
To make the corner above safer an alternate configuration will be used when deemed required by the commissaire. This configuration will see hats laid down the centre of the lane approaching the corner forcing riders to slow to make the turn safely.
Race cancellation
If the Commissaire, Race Director or Lead Coach (in the case of junior) deems the circuit to be unsafe for rider, spectators or volunteers the event may be cancelled. The cancellation notice will be posted on the clubs Facebook page giving as much notice as possible.
It is also possible that during an event if the circuit becomes too wet to continue safely that the Commissaire or Race Director may either alter the circuit or cancel the event. It is the rider’s responsibility to be aware of any changes to the situation.
UON has informed CCCC that notice of cancellation made after Friday midday prior to the event will see the rental fee charged and payable by the club. To this end if it is obvious that a safe event cannot be held the call to cancel racing will be made prior to this time.
We will always try to run events but the running of a safe event for all to take priority.
